Overview of Weight Loss Diet Programs

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

There are many weight loss diet programs available nowadays.  Every time you turn on the TV, there’s a some new pill or new diet that’s been launched.  If you’ve been doing research about weight loss diet programs and trying to figure out which program is the right one for you, perhaps this article will help you make an informed decision.

South Beach DietThis weight loss program was created by cardiologist, Dr. Arthur Agatston.  The focus of this diet is to eat the right types of carbohydrates and fats.  The program consists of three phases:  The first phase lasts two weeks and requires the most discipline because all carbohydrates are restricted.  Say goodbye to rice, pasta, bread, sugar-filled deserts, and potatoes!  Beer, wine, or alcohol is also prohibited.  However, what’s nice about the South Beach Diet is that you don’t have to count calories or restrict portion sizes.

Nutrisystem – Anybody who watches TV has probably heard of this weight loss program that has been endorsed by various celebrities.  In essence, the diet plan consists of combining exercise and smaller-portioned meals.  The company sends out meals to customers in preserved packages.  The idea is to take away the hassle of figuring out what foods to eat.  There are different plans offered for both men and women including a vegetarian and a diabetic plan.  Nutrisystem’s website also has a forum where you can get support counseling to help you stay motivated with your weight loss goal.

Medifast - Like Nutrisystem, Medifast offers portion-controlled meal plans.  This program emphasizes a lifestyle change versus a quick short-term diet or weight loss solution.  The meals are supposed to be easy to prepare – just add water and pop them into the microwave.  Proponents of Medifast say that you can lose weight quickly.
